Arkansas State Troopers today announced their upcoming “Click It or Ticket” Thanksgiving law enforcement campaign designed to undercut the kinds of car accidents that can necessitate a lawyer.
“Click It or Ticket” runs November 24-30. During that busy holiday travel week, law enforcement officials intend to exercise extra vigilance in enforcing seat belt laws.
Here are some of the statistics behind the “Click It or Ticket” campaign:
- There were 301 car accident deaths nationally during the 2012 Thanksgiving week, according the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
- During that same calendar year, seat belts reportedly saved more than 12,000 lives nationwide.
- Studies indicate that when passengers are wearing a seat belt during a car accident, their risk of dying in that accident goes down by roughly half.
Beyond saving your life in a car accident, a seat belt also can insure that you remain in control of your vehicle should the vehicle be struck by a bicycle, motorcycle, truck or wildlife, or sustain any other unexpected, unforeseen impact.
“The numbers tell the story,” Arkansas State Police Colonel Stan Witt said in a prepared statement. “Buckling up saves lives.”
