Our attorneys at the Law Offices of Alan LeVar who litigate truck accident lawsuits in and around Little Rock, Arkansas, want to commend recent safety upgrades promoted by the trucking industry.
According to news out today from the American Trucking Associations (ATA), these steps helped spur a slight decrease, on average, in truck accident fatalities nationwide.
“Our industry has worked hard, and invested in technology and training to improve highway safety not just for our drivers, but for all motorists,” ATA Executive Vice President for National Advocacy Dave Osiecki said in a prepared statement. “And while there is more work to do, it is gratifying to see those efforts paying off in safer roads for all of us.”
Trucking industry advocates scrutinized the most recent truck accident data available from federal agencies that monitor the issue. According to those statistics:
- There were 3,903 truck accident fatalities in 2014, which is down a total of 61 from the previous year.
- The current rate of truck accident fatalities is 1.40 per 100 million miles traveled.
- That fatality rate reflects a 2.78% decrease from 2013, and a 4.76% decrease over the past two years.
At the same time that trucking industry leaders applaud this good news, however, they also concede that the numbers could be even more optimistic. It follows that individual trucking companies must continue to be vigilant when it comes to teaching drivers how to avoid the common causes of truck accidents.
