Bikers unfairly receive a reputation for being dangerous motorists. In fact, statistics show that the drivers of 4-wheeled vehicles and trucks are often the cause of crashes involving motorcycles. Here are three types of motorcycle accidents that are quite common today:
1.An oncoming vehicle turns left in front of you. Motorists can easily misjudge your speed or fail to see you altogether. For those reasons, motorists sometimes make a left turn in front of an approaching motorcycle in an intersection or from a turn lane. Similarly, a motorist may pull in front of you when making a right turn out of a driveway or parking lot. Be cautious in these areas and other areas where motorists are likely to be turning.
2.A vehicle suddenly switches into your lane. A sudden lane switch could result in you and your bike getting side-swiped. To avoid being pushed off the road, be conscious of blind spots and try not to linger in them whenever possible.
3.A vehicle is following you too closely. When you are being tailgated, you could be badly injured if you are hit from behind. Motorists who follow too closely are not accounting for any problems that may require you to drastically reduce your speed or come to a complete stop.
Bikers, just like other motorists, have a right to be on the road. If you have been injured in an accident caused by someone else’s negligence, you deserve maximum compensation for all the ways the injury has impacted your life.
